This week’s post is a fun little illustration update <3
It’s a fun, experimental promo-poster for the Substack serial I’m outlining. I love this illustration, but I’m also not sure how clearly it translates to a monstrous “dragon” Saoirse is discovering (although it’s clear she’s discovered a monster).
I still learned a lot illustrating this piece, and that’s what matters (for me at least).
As always, I’m working hard on my extensive, in-depth outlines for my fantasy series. I just finished up a 90 page outline amendment to the book outlines for 2-41, and I’m back to working on the prelude outline again.
I’m really excited for what this story has become, and I hope you guys will enjoy it, too!
Meanwhile, I’m finishing up my last, private commission; next week, I begin my “big girl” illustration job. Oh, and we’re happily making slow preparations for moving back to Alaska <3
My sister gave me some phenomenal feedback that shaped up the series, tightened it, streamlined all the character arcs, and made everything so much better*. While I wrote a 90 page amendment for the outlines of books 2-4, the tweaks aren’t extensive; I won’t have to rewrite the outlines, but I will have to rework them, take out some stuff and rearrange other things.
But this is why I’m doing “developmental outlining” now, so I don’t have to do it later… after I’ve drafted three-four books. This will save me so much time.
Anyway, I’m excited for what’s happening in the story!
*What’s funny is all she said is “if Saorise does [insert spoiler] then Adam’s reaction should be [insert spoiler]”, and everything fell into place afterwards. My sister’s knack for a good story is that good.
I love your artwork so much!! The little lights are so pretty, and the way you draw your characters is breathtaking.
By the way, I’ve nominated you for the Sunshine Blogger Award! Your posts with art and commentary on writing are a huge blessing to me, and I want other people to discover your blog!
